A visit to the port of Estepona

Estepona port’s vibrant and international atmosphere ensures its continuing popularity with both residents and tourists throughout the year. Loved by shoppers for its Sunday morning market, by foodies for its eclectic selection of restaurants and by dancers for its happening bars and dance floors, there’s something for everyone.

Located just west of Estepona centre, the port is a working fishing harbour as well as a pleasure marina offering 447 berths up to 35 metres long. There are daily auctions where buyers from shops, restaurants and wholesalers bid for the best fish from the catch, but if you want to sample the Mediterranean fare for yourself then you’re best off sharpening your elbows and claiming a table at La Escollera. What it lacks in fancy décor it makes up for in the quality of fish served! Basic Spanish family food at its very best.

For a more refined, relaxing eating experience, try Rosatti’s. On the top level of the port with stunning views out to sea, Rosatti’s menu offers a superb mix of high quality Italian dishes, accompanied by fine wines and cavas. Or why not try trendy Bar Grill M10, the new contemporarily styled eatery on the waterfront serving tapas during the day as well as a fusion menu of Asian, American, Belgian and Mediterranean favourites until late.

There’s also a great mix of cafés and bars that are open late (until the early hours), including Reinaldo’s, a great meeting point thanks to its central location at the entrance to the marina. But if you’re looking to dance then Duende is a must visit. Spread over two floors and with an outside terrace area, Duende plays Spanish and Latin music with flamenco, bachata and salsa nights as well as a host of special events. It’s probably best to arrive after midnight if you want to experience it in all its glory!

Estepona’s Sunday market takes over the whole lower level of the port from early until about 14.30hrs. There are many different stands selling leather goods, artwork, jewellery, clothing, music and gifts. The restaurants surrounding the market are all open offering lunchtime and snack menus, making it a very social occasion for all the family.

Properties located around the port area are predominantly apartments and townhouses. There are some new ultra-luxury developments nearby with superb high value beach front properties featuring the latest in home control systems, huge terraces, bright interiors, underground parking, Olympic sized community pool, pool bar, gym and more.

Riviera Andaluza is another beautiful development nearby with two and three bedroom apartments and townhouses. This small private complex enjoys beautiful sea views, stunning community gardens, security and direct access to the beach.
