A quick guide to living in Benahavis
If you’re looking for somewhere to live on the Costa del Sol that offers both languid pace of authentic Andalucian village life, but is within a short 10 minute drive to the coast and all it has to offer, then Benahavis is definitely the place to buy.
Although the mountain village of Benahavis is only 7km inland from Spain’s Costa del Sol, it’s got such an atmosphere of calm and tranquillity; it might as well be in deepest rural Andalucia.
It’s quite simply one of the best places to live on the entire Costa del Sol.
Located in the foothills of the Serrania de Ronda mountains between the towns of San Pedro and Estepona, Benahavis village is incredibly picturesque, with its narrow cobbled streets and quaint whitewashed houses having been the inspiration of many an artist throughout the ages.
Low local taxes
The village is probably most famous as a haven of gastronomic excellence, as it boasts a wide choice of superb Spanish and international restaurants, but what many don’t realise is that it’s also the second largest municipality in geographical terms in the whole of Spain, with one of the lowest set of local taxation rates for residents on the Costa del Sol.
The town’s boundaries stretch many kilometres into the hinterland and as most of its area remains undeveloped and unpopulated, it’s blessed with outstanding natural beauty, including three major rivers (the Guadalmina, Guadaiza and Guadalmanza) and several spots of great historical significance such as El Cerro del Duque, Daidin and the Montemayor Castle.
Villas, apartments and country houses for sale in the village
In addition to its glorious natural surroundings, Benahavis village also has many residential areas of villas, townhouses and apartments which are home to its registered population of just under 4,000.
There’s a popular state junior school and great sports facilities including a football training pitch where top teams from around Europe including many English Premiership teams come to train.
The municipality also boasts twelve of the Costa del Sol’s best golf courses, such as Los Arqueros, La Quinta, La Zagaleta, Monte Mayor and Marbella Golf Country Club.
On top of all that, it’s only a 10 minute drive away from the beaches of the Costa del Sol.
